You know how it is (at least I hope you do and I am not the only one to do this!). You're browsing and you suddenly see an item from across the shop (a scarf, in my case) and think, "Hello!" As you get closer, you notice it's the only one left. You slow down; you don't want to seem too desperate for it. Wait, though- there's another woman looking through the scarves. It's ok as she seems to have discarded this one as she's rifling through, but wait... she's noticed me... I'm willing myself not to look at the scarf... GAH! too late - I looked! She knows! She's picked it up and is running it through her fingers, looking at me from the corner of her beady little eye - I should say that as soon as she picked up said scarf I made a detour for the bags - I'm breezy...(gratuitous Friends reference).
So, she's picked up the scarf and is now carrying it around the shop looking at other clothes. But I know she doesn't want it. She's picked it up because someone else has an interest in it - me! I'd like to say I tackled the bitch to the ground and wrestled it off her, but the rather sad truth is I just pretended to be totally engrossed in the men's denim section until she came back and put it down, which she eventually did. So as not to look completely psychotic, I waited until she'd left the area before snatching it up - MOOWAHAHAHAHA!
Goldfish wrap - £9.99 (reduced from £39.50). I love the way the fish look like pac-men with tails.
Worth the psycho behaviour?
My husband was so inspired/amused by my behaviour he used the story to write the lyric for his latest Song A Week. You can listen to Reach Out
here. As I've mentioned previously on this blog, Peter is writing a song a week in 2011 for Parkinsons UK. Please check out his blog and donate!
